Join us at Gallery on Main for a reception celebrating an exhibition of selected paintings by our good friend, visionary painter Jan ten Broeke (1930–2019), whose “brush name” was Ten. See a selection of his work and mingle with other artists and art lovers. Admission is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
Drawing inspiration from nature, biology, and history, these elements are reflected in the abstract forms of Ten’s work. His paintings are characterized by biomorphic shapes and evolutionary forces, combining structures with forms typically found in nature. The fluidity of the shapes as they push and pull against each other give it a lifelike appearance of organisms from a prehistoric time.
He explained, “My work does not represent any reality as we see it, but attempts to demonstrate the experience of the forces essential to the continuity of life on Earth. Ultimately, my mind, my eyes, and my hands are merely instruments in producing this work. Despite knowing better, I do frequently experience the sensation that the work is not created by me, but through me.”
Ten’s work will be on view, and available for purchase, at Gallery on Main throughout May 2025.
