Photography by Elzbieta Kaciuba and Corrine Evans Prochazka, Artists of the Month
/For the first time, Gallery on Main's "Artist of the Month" series features a dual exhibition of two artists: New Jersey-based photographers Elzbieta Kaciuba and Corrine Evans Prochazka. The exhbition will be on view August 1 through 31. Admission is free, and the photographs are available for purchase.
Meet the artists at a free opening reception on Saturday, August 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Elzbieta Kaciuba immigrated from Poland to the United States in 1976, and has lived in New Jersey for over 35 years. After high school, she attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, where she soon found her love for photography. Says Kaciuba, "Having the ability to capture how I see the world on film was liberating." Her style of photography is mainly inspired by street and portrait photographers, including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Imogene Cunnigham, Robert Frank, Diane Arbus and George Edward Hurrell. She has been a professional photographer since graduating from art school in 1992. She says, "The greatest thing about photography, apart from documenting memories, is that it is in a state of constant evolution. This allows me to continue to find ways to educate myself and sharpen my skills."
Corrine Evans Prochazka, a freelance photographer living in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, has been taking photos ever since she can remember. Her credits include three exhibitions with the Franklin Township Cultural Arts Council and two solo exhibitions at the Franklin Township Public Library. Her photo "The Trail Taken" was chosen for the 2019 Franklin Township Trails calendar as the first place winner and the overall winner of the contest, and her photograph “The Gazebo in Winter” was chosen for the month of December in the 2017 calendar.
